The New Investigators Program (NIP), which has been managed by AACP and funded by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) since 1985, has provided an important source of support, both financial and through peer feedback, for new pharmacy faculty members’ research ideas. The recent economic downturn and the market’s volatility has caused AACP to cancel the program due to insufficient funds. AACP hopes that the program will be reinstated next year. For faculty who have crafted a research proposal, an NIH R15 AREA award is also worth pursuing. The Parent program announcement has been extended into September. Questions regarding the R15 program grant should be directed to AACP senior vice president Ken Miller.
The deadline for the 2009-10 program is May 20, 2009, with a letter of intent due date of April 22, 2009. If you have not submitted a letter of intent, you may still apply to the program by the May 20th deadline. Please e-mail completed applications as PDF file -- a hardcopy is not necessary.
