The section works to advance pharmacy practice education through research and dialogue in teaching methods and curriculum design. It promotes the acquisition of new knowledge through independent or collaborative research on the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, sociologic or therapeutic aspects of clinical drug use. In addition, the section promotes research in educational methods that may be applied to teaching pharmacy practice and the clinical sciences. The section has a vested interest in growing and sustaining the cadre of pharmacy practice faculty members through development and mentoring. The section makes recommendations to the Board of Directors and the Council of Sections in matters affecting the teaching of pharmacy practice and the future direction of pharmaceutical education. Finally, the section contributes expertise in pharmacy practice and the clinical sciences to deliberations of the House of Delegates.
The mission of the Section of Teachers of Pharmacy Practice is to cultivate a professional environment among its members that will foster the development of excellence, innovation and leadership in all educational endeavors including practice, scholarship and service within the organization, the larger academic community and the healthcare professions.
