Call for Committee Volunteers

Dr. Peggy Piascik, AACP president-elect, is seeking volunteers to serve on AACP standing, awards selection and other committees. During her presidential year, Piascik will be focusing AACP’s efforts on innovations in the following areas: admissions and models of learning, practice and scholarship. If you are interested in serving on an AACP Committee during the 2013–2014 academic year, please submit your request via the form located on the AACP Web site by March 27 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

AACP Welcomes New Manager of Student Affairs

Shaba A. Lightfoot joined AACP on January 16 as manager of student affairs. She previously served as student affairs coordinator at the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges. Shaba also brings experience as an administrative assistant, customer service representative and legal intern. She holds a B.A. in English from Spelman College in Atlanta. Add Your Team to the IPEC Institute Waitlist

The Interprofessional Faculty Development Institute for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, hosted by AACP and its IPEC partners, has reached maximum capacity. Please complete the form on the IPEC Web site to add your team to the waitlist. The Institute will be held May 20-22 at the Hyatt Dulles in Herndon, Virginia. Award for Excellence in Assessment Applications Due Soon

Submission criteria for the 2013 Award for Excellence in Pharm.D. Program-Level Assessment are available on the AACP Web site. This award recognizes outstanding Doctor of Pharmacy assessment programs for their progress in developing and applying evidence of outcomes as part of the ongoing evaluation and improvement of pharmacy education. Submissions are due Friday, Feb. 8 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Apply Today for the AACP Walmart Scholars Program

The 2013 AACP Walmart Scholars Program will provide $1,000 scholarships to up to 85 student-faculty pairs from AACP member institutions to attend the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting in Chicago, July 13-17. Application materials are available on the AACP Web site and are due by 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 14. Contact: walmartscholars@aacp.org.

Save the Date for the AACP Institute

The AACP Institute, Teaching Essentials: Building a Foundation for Student Learning, Constructing Assessments, and Effective Teaching, will be held May 20–22, 2013 at The National Conference Center in Leesburg, Va. This Institute has been designed to provide teams of beginning pharmacy educators, with an experienced faculty member as the team leader, a foundation and practical application of fundamental teaching principles to take back and share with colleagues at their home institutions. Teams of 3-5 will engage in sessions that focus on developing learner-centered sessions, constructing assessments, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching. Online registration will open Feb. 20.

Reminder—Apply for the Academic Leadership Fellows Program

The Academic Leadership Fellows Program is designed to develop the nation's most promising pharmacy faculty for roles as future leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. Nomination and application information is available on the AACP Web site. Up to 30 Fellows will be selected to participate in 2013-14. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 22. Call for Annual Meeting Research/Education Poster Abstracts

The Council of Sections invites AACP members to submit educational and research poster abstracts for the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting Poster Session on Sunday, July 14 and Monday, July 15 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. If you are interested in submitting an abstract for the 2013 Annual Meeting, it must be submitted online via the AACP submission Web site by Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Call for Annual Meeting Roundtable Discussion Topics

Members are invited to submit topics for two, one-hour roundtable discussion sessions on July 14-17 during the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting. Roundtables are informal discussions of pressing current topics important to the Academy. They provide a venue to both share and learn from educators from other colleges and schools of pharmacy. More information can be found on the AACP Web site. Please submit your topic online by 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

New AACP/FMI Foundation Grant Opportunity

AACP and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Foundation have collaborated to provide grant funding for small conceptualization practice model activities involving pharmacists and nutrition professionals in food retail establishments. APhA Foundation

The APhA Foundation announces the establishment of an endowed scholarship to memorialize Mr. A.J.M (Ton) Hoek’s commitment to the global community of pharmacists. The Ton Hoek Endowed Scholarship will provide an annual stipend for a student pharmacist or resident from the United States to attend the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Congress. If you would like to contribute to this scholarship fund, please donate through the APhA Foundation Web site. Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)
AAMC and the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response are co-hosting the conference, A Critical Relationship for Successful Healthcare Preparedness. White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is accepting applications for its Summer 2013 Student Volunteer Program. The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. Application instructions are available on the White House Web site.

American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP)
The Paul G. Cano Legislative Internship is a paid 8-week summer program (early June through early August) during which student pharmacists participate in ASCP's advocacy work on Capitol Hill and throughout Washington, D.C.
