AACP and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Foundation have collaborated to provide grant funding for small conceptualization practice model activities involving pharmacists and nutrition professionals in food retail establishments. Up to five (5) grants with a maximum of $5,000 each (no overhead allowed) will be awarded in July 2013 to individual pharmacy school faculty who collaborate with a retail or independent food market to explore a practice model activity involving both pharmacy and nutrition. AACP invites applications from individual members for the 2013 Innovations in Teaching Competition. Applications take the form of course portfolios describing innovative approaches to the teaching/learning or assessment processes in a course, a component of a course or continuing professional education. The Academic Leadership Fellows Program is designed to develop the nation's most promising pharmacy faculty for roles as future leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. The program is in its ninth year with more than 260 Fellows representing over 100 pharmacy schools. Nomination and application information is available on the AACP Web site. The 2013 AACP Institute, Teaching Essentials: Building a Foundation for Student Learning, Constructing Assessments, and Effective Teaching, has been designed to provide teams of beginning pharmacy educators, with an experienced faculty member as the team leader, a foundation and practical application of fundamental teaching principles to take back and share with colleagues at their home institutions. Teams of 3-5 will engage in sessions that focus on developing learner-centered sessions, constructing assessments, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching. In 2013, AACP will support three Institutes. This includes the AACP Institute: Teaching Essentials, and two additional Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Institutes. The call for applications for the 2013 Award for Excellence in Pharm.D. Program-Level Assessment is now open and submission criteria are available on the AACP Web site. This award recognizes outstanding Doctor of Pharmacy assessment programs for their progress in developing and applying evidence of outcomes as part of the ongoing evaluation and improvement of pharmacy education. Submissions are due Friday, Feb. 8 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The 2013 AACP Walmart Scholars Program will provide $1,000 scholarships to up to 85 student-faculty pairs from AACP member institutions to attend the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting in Chicago, July 13-17. The IOM Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education, of which AACP is a founding member, has completed its workshop series on improving health by linking education to practice through interprofessional education. The Council of Sections invites AACP members to submit educational and research poster abstracts for the 2013 AACP Annual Meeting Poster Session on Sunday, July 14 and Monday, July 15 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. If you are interested in submitting an abstract for the 2013 Annual Meeting, it must be submitted online via the AACP submission Web site by Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
