American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education Announces Three New Associate Editors

Arlington, Va. —  The American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, AACP’s flagship journal, has appointed three new associate editors: 

  • Jacqui McLaughlin, Ph.D., associate professor and director of the Center for Innovation in Pharmacy Education and Research at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy;
  • William Prescott, Pharm.D., clinical professor and department chair for the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the Division of Education and Teaching Innovation at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; and 
  • Jonathan Thigpen, Pharm.D., associate professor and assistant dean for curricular innovation and professional development at Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy.

In their role as associate editors, they will recruit manuscripts on teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning, solicit reviewers, initiate review of and make the final decision on manuscripts, serve as the liaison to journal task forces, and participate in Journal meetings and activities.

Dr. McLaughlin received her doctorate in educational research and policy analysis from North Carolina State University. She spent one year as a postdoctoral fellow with the Office of Strategic Planning and Assessment at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. McLaughlin has been recognized as a Distinguished Teaching Scholar and has received awards including Best Paper for the AACP Pharmacy Practice Section, Excellence in Experiential Education, and Best Poster. Along with being a consistent author and reviewer for AJPE, Dr. McLaughlin has over 130 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has also served as a member of the editorial boards for BMC Medical Education (associate editor from 2019-2022), Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, and Education in Health Professions.

Dr. Prescott received his Pharm.D. from the University at Buffalo in 2002 and completed a two-year pediatric residency at the University of Michigan. He has been a dedicated member of the AJPE editorial board from 2018 to 2024, serving on multiple AJPE task forces. Dr. Prescott has published over 55 peer-reviewed papers, including 23 in AJPE. As a highly regarded and reliable reviewer, he has completed 35 reviews for AJPE. His academic recognitions include the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from the State University of New York.

Dr. Thigpen received his Pharm.D. from Samford University and went on to complete two postdoctoral fellowships: one in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, and one in academia and research at Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. He later joined Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy as a full-time faculty member. Dr. Thigpen was in his final term as a member of the AJPE editorial board before his appointment to the Editorial Team. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing the AJPE Reviewer Mentorship Program, now hosting its third cohort . A dedicated board member, he has also been a consistent reviewer and author for AJPE. He was recognized as one of AJPE's top 25 reviewers in 2019, 2022, and 2023.
