By connecting billing knowledge to patient care and professional opportunities, this session will set the tone for a day dedicated to empowering educators with the tools needed to teach this vital skill.

From Theory to Practice: Code Selection and Documentation

In this session, participants will apply medical decision-making criteria to clinical scenarios to determine the appropriate E/M codes. Participants will learn how to distinguish when to use each criteria type based on specific clinical situations and identify key components of clinical documentation essential for supporting appropriate billing. Through hands-on practice and case analysis, participants will enhance their skills in billing code selection and documentation to ensure compliance and optimize reimbursement.

Part 1: Breakout Group Discussion

Present a patient case scenario and go into breakout groups to share how you would teach this in the classroom – Be an educator.

Session description: This session will guide participants in developing tailored strategies to integrate medical billing into pharmacy curricula, focusing on key components, practical implementation, and measurable outcomes. Participants will engage in case-based brainstorming, hear from colleagues currently teaching medical billing, and gain access to established tools and resources for teaching this content. Teams will have dedicated time to adapt and develop teaching materials for their own programs and then give and receive feedback on specific areas of their teaching plan via a Wise Crowds approach.
