Strategies for Helping Students Thrive in Experiential Learning Environments
Hosted by the Experiential Education Section
Supervising IPPE and/or APPE students can present challenges for preceptors, particularly when a student is experiencing personal or academic difficulties. Identifying the signs of such struggles may not be immediately apparent, and preceptors may not be accustomed to handling such situations or familiar with generational differences in coping with emotional stress. To assist preceptors in recognizing when a student needs support, a panel of experiential education faculty and preceptors will share their insights on identifying signs of a struggling student and ways to connect with the college for assistance.
Objectives:
- Recognize the signs of a student struggling with personal or academic challenges during experiential learning and follow-up steps to take for early intervention with the school of pharmacy.
- Examine generational variances in coping with emotional stress within and outside of experiential learning settings.
- Describe effective strategies to assist learners in navigating stressful situations.
