Simulation offers students an opportunity to apply knowledge to realistic patient situations and pharmacy practice scenarios within a supportive classroom environment. Specifically related to self-care and nonprescription medicine recommendations, simulation allows for the development of essential critical thinking skills. Presenters from three institutions will discuss examples of how they utilize simulation to enhance self-care and nonprescription medicine education in their programs.
Objectives:
- Describe MyDispense, a highly interactive web-based platform, and its application to self-care recommendations.
- Discuss the use of Simulated Patient Encounter Case (SPEC) in a self-care course to increase the student experience in interviewing, assessing, and providing self-care recommendations.
- Identify strategies to integrate simulation-based self-care experiences into pharmacy curricula.
