Pursuit of Equity & Social Justice

Hosted by the Health Disparities and Cultural Competence SIG

Disparities within the United States expand throughout social, economic, political, health, and education sectors. The various dimensions of health disparities, according to Healthy People, include “[r]ace or ethnicity, sex, sexual identity, age, disabilities, socioeconomic status, and geographic location…” These disparities can be mitigated through equity and social justice, which can be summarized as fairness and balance in the distribution of resources, opportunities, and privileges for economic, political, and social resources to ensure physical and psychological safety and security for all.

Objectives:

  1. Describe the concepts of inequity and social injustice.
  2. Discuss the intersection of social injustice and health disparities.
  3. Engage participants on discussion of the initiatives within other Colleges/Schools of Pharmacy towards social justice and mitigating health disparities.
