Hosted by the Health Disparities and Cultural Competence SIG
It can be challenging to determine how you are perceived by patients, particularly as a student learner. Labs, simulations, and experiential settings can all be opportunities for students to develop the skills and attitudes needed to be caring and empathetic pharmacists to a broad variety of patients. This session will focus on ways to intentionally integrate empathy development in simulated and actual clinical learning, best practices for assessing empathy development, and approaches to aid students in self-reflecting on their performance.
Objectives:
- Describe methods to integrate empathy within clinical and experiential learning.
- Identify tools to assess student empathy development.
- Examine approaches to aid students in self-assessing their empathy toward different patient populations.
