Empowering Students to Break Down Barriers to Provide Exemplary Geriatric Care
Hosted by the Geriatric Pharmacy SIG
The COVID-19 pandemic cast a spotlight on unique barriers to optimal care for vulnerable elders while bringing a host of new and previously underrecognized challenges. Effective solutions will require the development and implementation of innovative educational strategies in the didactic, laboratory, and experiential settings to ensure that care is continuously monitored, measured, and adapted to meet goals. Pharmacists will leave this session with tools to implement these solutions in their practice.
Objectives:
- Discuss educational strategies to equip and empower students to identify and dismantle barriers of care for older adults.
- Implement the Pharmacists' Patient Care Process to teach adaptable patient-centered and holistic care plans.
- Collaborate with fellow pharmacists to develop practical clinical solutions to optimize the care of older adults.
