Faculty, staff, and student well-being was the subject of growing concern even before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted how we all work and learn. Although some threats to well-being can be addressed via behavior change or education and training, many challenges are deeply rooted in organizational life and can only be overcome by changing policies and practices and redesigning the working and learning experience. Recognizing that these efforts necessitated a systems-based approach, the 2021-2022 AACP Student Affairs Committee (SAC) was charged with developing a resource guide to help member institutions holistically address the well-being of faculty, staff, and students. The SAC’s approach was to focus on school culture and outline a series of actional steps grounded in the science of organizational change. In this session, we will provide an overview of the resource guide and a process through which schools can explore their unique well-being challenges and implement an individualized action plan.
Objectives
- Outline a process for creating an organizational culture that values faculty, staff, and student well-being.
- Describe how faculty, staff, and student well-being can be positively affected by balancing organizational demands and resources.
