Hosted by the Pharmacogenomics SIG and the Global Education SIG
Current pharmacogenomic clinical research includes mostly individuals of European ancestry. A significant need exists to include underrepresented groups in teaching efforts related to pharmacogenomics. Pharmacy educators should develop an increased awareness and understanding of how to integrate this knowledge in respective curricula at various institutions to address efforts in promoting health equity. This webinar will present various patient case examples from Africa and Asia that support efforts in improving diverse case representation through the AACP Pharmacogenomics SIG case repository.
Objectives
- Recognize the differences in pharmacogenomic allele frequencies among ancestry groups as a guide to appropriate test selection to maximize the appropriate use of medications in a population.
- Discuss pharmacogenomic examples from Sub-Saharan Africa of how to enhance and diversify case representation through the AACP Pharmacogenomics SIG case repository.
- Discuss pharmacogenomic examples from Southeast Asia of how to enhance and diversify case representation through the AACP Pharmacogenomics SIG case repository.
