Hosted by the Women Faculty SIG
Professional mentorship is integral to career growth, particularly for women and underrepresented groups. Traditionally, these mentoring relationships involve the pairing of individuals in different places in their career, but with similar characteristics such as gender or ethnicity. While challenges can be encountered in any mentoring relationship, there are also unique growth opportunities for individuals when discordant pairs seek to learn from each other. This webinar will discuss challenges and opportunities encountered specifically in cross-gender mentoring relationships.
Objectives:
- Identify challenges faced when forming cross-gender mentorship pairs.
- Provide examples of personal growth opportunities encountered, such as uncovering unconscious bias and adapting communication styles.
- Describe career growth opportunities that may be unique to cross-gender mentorship.
