Hosted by the Well-Being and Resiliency Community
It is essential that pharmacy learners develop a professional identity by internalizing a core set of professional norms which in turn affect their thoughts, feelings, and actions. While concepts of honor, duty, ethics, and service to others traditionally come to mind, promotion of values and beliefs to enhance one’s own well-being should also be critical norms that allow pharmacy professionals to continue to give of themselves to others. Pharmacy faculty and preceptors must serve as role models, particularly to help instill well-being as part of professional identity formation for learners.
Objectives:
- Describe the evolution of professionalism and professional identity formation in pharmacy.
- Explain the importance of incorporating well-being related values and beliefs into professional identify formation.
- Define the roles of pharmacy faculty and preceptors in a learner’s professional identify formation process, particularly as it relates to enhancing well-being and resiliency.
