Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Pharmacy Education Institute

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute in Pharmacy Education will provide attendees with knowledge, skills, and opportunities for application of AI in the pharmacy classroom and pharmacy practice settings.

The virtual Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute will be held April 3-5, 2024, to help members advance their knowledge, skills, and attitudes about AI in this rapidly changing digital environment. Institutional teams will have the opportunity to collaborate with other faculty and staff across the Academy to effectively incorporate AI in their school/college of pharmacy.

Institute Objectives

1. Explain ways AI is being used in pharmacy practice and academia.
2. Determine ethical considerations of using AI in academia.
3. Discuss AI competencies to be incorporated into the curriculum.
4. Develop policies and procedures around ethical use of AI use at your home institution.
5. Modify your curriculum and assessment plan to incorporate AI use at your home institution.  
6. Execute basic AI searches with hands-on application and demonstrations of common platforms.

This is a NEW Institute!

This is a new topic and it is important for all schools/colleges to consider sending a team to learn more about AI. This topic is rapidly evolving and highly relevant across many settings!

Highlights Include:

• A panel of students and faculty sharing their experiences about how they use AI in schools/colleges of pharmacy
• Discussion of AI competencies recommended for graduates and practitioners in the health professions and apply them to pharmacy education including integration with COEPA/ACPE Standards and Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process
• Pharmacists and health care practitioners sharing how AI is being incorporated into patient care settings in community, ambulatory, health-systems, and digital health companies
• Team time and activities to apply information and develop a plan to implement lessons learned at your home institution
• Networking opportunities with other faculty, staff, and administrators across the Academy to learn how other pharmacy schools are incorporating AI

Who Should Attend?

AACP encourages any faculty member, administrator, or staff person to attend. This institute would be particularly impactful for faculty and staff involved in curriculum and assessment committees, assistant/associate deans of academic affairs, and CEO Deans. Registration Information

Prior to registering, team composition should be determined, and schools/colleges can register all team members at the same time. The team maximum is 10 individuals per team. One person from the team or school can register the entire team via the online registration page. If individuals need to register and pay separately, the AACP staff will make sure that they are added to their school’s team. If a school is unable to send a full team, individuals may still register for the institute using the online form.
