Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in PharmD Orientation and Co-Curricular Activities
Hosted by the Chemistry Section
Teaching students the value of diversity is critical to fostering a harmonious, collaborative, and productive classroom environment. We incorporated a diversity workshop into the first-year PharmD orientation activities. The workshop’s goals include identifying information and disinformation learned about other groups, identifying and expressing pride in the group(s) to which we belong, learning how different groups experience mistreatment, learning the personal impact of specific incidents of discrimination, and learning how to interrupt prejudicial jokes, remarks and slurs.
Objectives:
- Recognize (and celebrate) different identities.
- Examine unconscious bias.
- Compare and contrast internalized oppression and pride as they relate to different identities.
- Recognize and “unlearn” biases, stereotypes, and prejudices.
