The How to Teach Medical Billing Basics: A Hands-On Workshop will prepare pharmacy educators to teach the basics of medical billing to pharmacy students as part of the PharmD curriculum. This program is intended for any pharmacy faculty member, regardless of prior medical billing knowledge or experience. The virtual Medical Billing Workshop will be held November 14, 2024.

Registration will open on Sept. 16, 2024

Institute Objectives

  1. Identify and apply appropriate medical billing codes (e.g., E/M, MTM) to pharmacy patient care cases. (Foundational Knowledge)
  2. Describe documentation components required to justify a medical billing code. (Foundational Knowledge)
  3. Create and utilize lesson plans and instructional materials that incorporate real-world billing scenarios and exercises to equip pharmacy students with the skills needed to perform basic medical billing tasks in practice.  (How to Educate)
  4. Develop a plan to integrate medical billing concepts into the PharmD curriculum. (Curriculum Incorporation) 

Highlights Include

  2. Tailor a plan to teach medical billing in your curriculum while avoiding curricular bloat.
  3. Leave the workshop with pre-existing and adaptable resources to teach medical billing.

Required Pre-requisite

Register and attend the "Medical Billing 101 for Pharmacy Educators" webinar hosted by AACP on October 17. During this webinar, attendees will gain knowledge on the basics of medical billing and understand the importance of medical billing competencies in the curriculum. This webinar is a required pre-requisite for the virtual Medical Billing Workshop in November and is intended for any pharmacy faculty member, regardless of prior medical billing knowledge or experience.
