Hosted by the Pharmaceutics Section.

Pharmacy faculty are required to engage in scholarly activities and secure external funding for career advancement. However, many teaching-focused institutions lack adequate support for grant writing. This webinar will equip participants with effective grant proposal writing skills and an understanding of NIH and foundation grant mechanisms. We will exclusively focus on NIH Support for Research Excellence (SuRE) R16 award mechanism, which presents an outstanding opportunity for teaching focused institutions to get involved in extramurally funded research. The session will provide foundational information about general strategies for pre-submission phase, grant writing, and NIH scoring criteria, Finally, presenters will share effective strategies for writing various sections of a grant proposal.

Objectives:

  • Understand Funding Mechanisms: Participants will be able to identify and comprehend various funding mechanisms, including those from NIH and NSF, and prepare effectively for the pre-submission phase.
  • Master NIH Grant Applications: Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the NIH SuRE (R16) funding mechanism, application process, including the NIH scored review criteria and rigor and how to align proposal components with these criteria.
  • Develop Effective Grant Proposals: Participants will learn and apply effective strategies and tools for writing different components of a grant proposal.
