April 02, 2025
1:00p.m.-2:00 p.m. ET

Hosted by the Substance Use Disorder SIG

This webinar will introduce pharmacy practice faculty to harm reduction as a treatment philosophy, specifically in the context of substance use. It will discuss various harm reduction strategies and the evidence that supports their use. While this presentation will focus on harm reduction for people who use drugs, it will also highlight how faculty can incorporate harm reduction principles into their teaching of other clinical topics. Weighing idealistic treatment versus harm reduction is a practical and nuanced skill that students must develop to best serve their patients.

Objectives:

  • Define harm reduction as it relates to drug use.
  • List various harm reduction strategies that can improve the health of individuals who use drugs, and their community.
  • Explore and identify clinical topics that could be taught through the lens of harm reduction.
