Academic Affairs Committee - COEPA Feedback Survey

AACP Resource

COEPA feedback Survey

The 2021-2022 Academic Affairs committee has updated the educational outcomes and entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for new pharmacy graduates. The revision process included review of feedback provided by multiple stakeholders regarding the 2013 CAPE outcomes and 2016 EPAs. In addition the committee considered contemporary pharmacy practice and the needs of people pharmacists serve. The educational outcomes and EPAs have been combined into a single document to demonstrate to colleges and schools of pharmacy how to incorporate both into the design and revision of curricula and is now referred to as Curricular Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities (COEPA) 2022.

While knowledge, skills and attitudes are critically important for collaborating with other healthcare professionals and meeting the needs of the patient population(s) served, a foundational emphasis should be considered upon specific core values and guiding principles that all pharmacists should exhibit when providing care. Professionalism behaviors, including but not limited to integrity, empathy, social responsibility with an emphasis on social justice, leadership in the context of teamwork, and cultural humility are underlying tenets which all pharmacists should exhibit when approaching patient care situations. In order for learners to receive, value, adopt, and begin to exhibit these professional behaviors and attributes, it is important for Schools/Colleges of Pharmacy to foster professional identity formation. While the required knowledge, skills, and attitudes evolve as scientific advancements are made and practice models advance, the core values and guiding principles remain constant. Therefore, the core values and guiding principles serve as the foundation for pharmacists and underpin knowledge, skills, and attitudes required across the entire profession.

The committee is seeking input from multiple stakeholders across the profession for the draft version of COEPA 2022. When answering the survey items, please keep in mind the expected performance of a new graduate entering their first position as a pharmacist that has potential to span a variety of practice settings. Thank you for taking time to provide feedback to assist with continuing to move the profession forward!
